B: So, have you ever been to Karakuni Dake?
M: No, what's Karakuni Dake?
B: Well, it's one of the mountains that form the Kirishima Mountain Range in Kagoshima.
M: Oh, I've heard about that. It's really beautiful, isn't it?
B: Yeah, it definitely is beautiful, but it's also dangerous.
M: Why? Is it really steep?
B: No, it's not so steep.
M: Then, why is it dangerous?
B: Well, let me tell you what happened to me there. I went there with my
wife and her family. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, it was
warm, not too humid - a perfect day for an outing.
M: Yeah.
B: So we were really having a nice time. But as we got near the top, I
saw this strange-looking person over on the opposite end.
M: What was strange?
B: Well, it was some distance away, and it was a bit foggy, so at first, I couldn't tell whether it was a man or a woman.
M: Yeah?
B: As we got a little closer, my wife suddenly screamed, "Oh my god.
He's naked!"
M: What?!
B: There was this really weird-looking person. I still couldn't tell whether it was a man or a woman because
it had really long hair and it was facing away from us. But I could tell that, sure enough, she was right. The thing, or the person was naked! And it was right on
the edge of the mountain doing some kind of weird dance and looking in a mirror at itself.
M: What?! A mirror?!
B: Yeah, a little hand-held mirror. Just as my wife screamed, the person whirled around and started running towards us!
M: (Laughs) Oh man!
B: I could see then that the person was a man, a really weird, demented-looking man. We said, "That's okay, man. Don't let us disturb you!" and took off running in the other direction.
M: Wow!
B: I looked over my shoulder once and saw that he had stopped running.
But he was still staring at us with this twisted lok on his face!
M: Jeez, that's really creepy!
B: I was at a loss for what to do. I wanted to stay a while, but not with that weirdo there. Finally, my wife said "Let's go! I don't want to provoke him again!"
M: Wow. So did you find out anything about who it was?
B: Well, a friend of mine who lives in Kagoshima saw the same guy, but
that time he didn't seem to notice my friend. He just kept doing his little
dance and posing in the mirror.
M: Yeah?
B: But my friend talked to this old guy who lives in a little cabin on the top of the mountain about it.
M: Uh-huh.
B: He said, "Oh yes, he comes here all the time. Sometimes he sleeps
on the mountain."
M: But what about his being naked?
B: The old guy said it was harmless.
M: Wow, that's really weird.
B: So if you go there, go with a friend.
M: I sure will.
